How might we create a low-risk environment for cardiologists to practice catheterization procedures?

Context

about cardiac catheterization procedures

Issue

no testing / simulation environment to practice before performing live angiographies / tavi etc

Existing Solutions

  • computer simulation

Proposed Solution

body-length physical simulator. use water + a pump to simulate blood flow.

a programmable pump can be connected to external controls to simulate specific cardiovascular conditions — use equations to control the pumps flow, frequency, pressure etc. and try to approximate variations like low/high blood pressure, clogged vessels.

if the overall physical design can be made open-source and 3d-printable (+ manual assembly where required), it could be way more cost-effective than and easy-to-make near any hospital.

plus, if the programmable pump’s code is also made open-source, the blood flow models can be iterated much more rapidly.
